Dear colleagues,

It is with great pleasure and honor that I welcome you all to The 9th Japan-Taiwan Radiation Oncology Annual Symposium, taken place in Sapporo from Aug 17-18, 2024.

This symposium has been held once a year since 2013, with the aim of developing cutting-edge research centered on high-precision radiotherapy and also deepening relationship between the Japanese Society of Radiation Oncology (JASTRO) and the Taiwanese Society of Radiation Oncology (TASTRO). After the 2-year break due to COVID pandemic, the 8th event was successfully taken placed in 2023 in Taipei, under the theme “Igniting the Eternal Flame of Friendship”. The theme of this year’s event “Fostering friendships and future-oriented collaboration” takes over the will of last one. In the face of emerging radiation thechnologies at such rapid pace, it is pivotal to foster future-oriented close relationship between the member of both societies in order to explore safer and more effective cancer therapy for patients in both countries.

The year 2023 has become such a hot summer on a global scale that a new buzzword has appeared: "global boiling." Sapporo was not exception but the climate in Sapporo in the mid-August is usually pleasant with a hint of autumn. We hope you will enjoy your stay in “cool” Sapporo and find this conference a valuable and unforgettable experience.

このたび第９回日本台湾放射線腫瘍学シンポジウムを2024年8月17日(土)・18日（日）北海道大学医学部学友会館（札幌）において開催させていただくことになりました。本シンポジウムは、高精度放射線治療を中心に先端的放射線治療研究の発展と日本－台湾の交流を深めることを目的に、平成25年に第1回が日本で開催されてから年一度の日本と台湾での交互開催となり、日本放射線腫瘍学会(JASTRO)と台湾放射線腫瘍学会(TASTRO)の公式行事となっております。詳細な案内につきましてはホームページに随時記載していく予定ですのでご覧ください。

今回のテーマは、「Fostering friendships and future-oriented collaboration」としました。これはパンデミックによる3年間の空白を経て再開された第8回大会（2023年8月26日・台北）のテーマ「Igniting the Eternal Flame of Friendship」の意思を引き継ぐものであり、再点火された「Ignite」友情の炎「Flame of Friendship」を確かなものにして、将来にわたる連携「eternal future-oriented collaboration」を目指すということを意図しています。　 　

台湾と日本は、幸い歴史的に良好な友好関係にあるため、両国の協力は重要な意味を持っています。 本シンポジウムで高精度放射線治療の様々な課題について討議し、放射線治療の未来に少しでも貢献できればと考えています。 2023年は「地球沸騰化」という新たな流行語が登場するほど地球規模で暑い夏になりました。札幌も例外ではありませんでしたが、例年のお盆明けの札幌は秋の気配が漂う気持ちの良い気候です。ぜひ、日本と台湾からたくさんの参加者が札幌に集まり、第1回シンポジウム以来築いてきた日台の更なる友好関係と、両国の放射線治療の相互理解と協力がより一層に深められればありがたいと願っています。近日中に演題募集を開始しますが、今回は一般会員も参加しやすいように一般演題も募集する予定ですので、多数の応募をお待ちしております。
